(CSR) Alignment in Lao PDR

Location:

Vientiane, Laos

Year of Completion:

Sector:

Climate Action and Carbon Management

Project Summary

The National Verified Carbon Footprint Program (NVCFP) is a strategic framework designed to encourage organizations and companies in Lao PDR to voluntarily measure, report, and reduce their carbon emissions. This initiative aims to enhance environmental accountability, promote sustainable practices, and support the transition to a low-carbon economy.

As lead consultants for UNDP's Pilot Voluntary Carbon Footprint Assessment Project, we developed a comprehensive suite of carbon assessment tools and guidelines tailored specifically for the Lao business context. Our team conducted successful pilot testing with prominent organizations including Beer Lao, Allianz, Lao Airlines, BCEL, BFL, and Mitrphol, demonstrating the practical application and value of carbon footprint measurement across diverse sectors.

Working closely with both private companies and government ministries, we navigated the challenges of introducing carbon accounting practices in a market where such concepts are still emerging. Beyond the technical deliverables, we created a strategic roadmap for the development of a National Voluntary Carbon Footprint Program in Lao PDR, establishing a progressive pathway that will normalize carbon measurement and reporting for businesses throughout the country in the coming years.

  • Establish a national framework for voluntary carbon footprint assessments.
